LEED

Amari Roskelly of Jacobs Engineering spoke with us on March 23, 2013 about some of the LEED projects.  This was my first exposure to LEED and sustainable projects.

The idea of being Green or using renewable source of energy has been in existent for years.  However, new technologies have made it more achievable.

Unfortunately, most Green projects belong to U.S government. Fort Carson in Colorado recently certified as LEED GOLD

In recent years, we started to see more green buildings in the DFW area.  The newest green project is the Perot Museum of Nature & Science.  Condensations from the HVAC are used for irrigation systems, which reduces water costs.

Another noticeable GREEN project is the Trinity River Audobon.  It was designed to minimized the "heat island effect"from asphalt and concrete.  The facility is equipped with low-flow toilets, which reduces water consumptions by at least 20%.
